Approximately 200 people live in Old Lincoln. Perched at 5,700 ft. off  U.S. Highway 380, it is a town which is at once a living community and a national historic landmark. Made famous by one of the most violent periods in New Mexico history, to  be here means to walk in the ‘Wild West’ footsteps of Billy the Kid, Pat Garrett, and other famous characters.

The events of the Lincoln County War of 1878 can be traced through the Courthouse and the Tunstall Store, with their preserved 19th-century atmosphere. The Lincoln County Courthouse with museum recounts the details of the Lincoln County War and the historic use of the "House" as store, residence, Masonic Lodge, courthouse, and jail. The Tunstall Store contains displays of the original 19th-century merchandise still in their original shelving and cases!
